Children's Grief Awareness Day was created to help us all become more aware of the needs of grieving children - and the benefits they obtain through the support of others. It's also an opportunity to make sure grieving children receive the support they need.

CGAD is a day to...

EDUCATE the community about children who are grieving.

EQUIP peers and adults to be companions for grieving children.

HONOR these children and their loved ones who have died.

Here are some ways you can participate in observing Children's Grief Awareness Day:

  • Wear blue on November 21st - perhaps even add a butterfly! Share with others why! Blue is the color of Children's Grief Awareness Day and the butterfly is a symbol of HOPE.
  • Pledge to tell three people about Children's Grief Awareness Day.
  • Tour your local grief support center to learn about their services and share your knowledge with your community.
  • "Flip The Script" on children's grief and replace unhelpful statements or silence with action-based responses. Learn more here

Grieving kids don't just "get over it." They need support - more support and for a longer time than most people assume. Children who are grieving often feel understood and validated when they have the opportunity to discuss their person and/or the death.
