This time of year can feel like the entire world is coming to life again! Warmer temperatures, brighter colors, spring break excitement, and that feeling that we've survived another Midwest winter.

But while many of us are more than ready to get out and shake off the dreary winter days, this time of year can be surprisingly difficult for those who are grieving.

The new level of energy and excitement that comes with spring can make those who are grieving feel left behind rather than refreshed. The weather may have gotten better, but their sadness hasn't.

Children, teens, and their caregivers who struggle with this disconnect between what they're feeling and how the rest of the world seems to feel can find comfort and validation in our peer support groups. These groups are a place to share thoughts, feelings, and fears, including anger and resentment.

Our participants help each other understand that such feelings and emotions are a normal part of the grieving process and that they are not alone, especially when everyone else around them seems to be enjoying spring.
